Getting there and the Travemünde terminal
The ferry departs from the Skandinavienkai, one of the largest ferry ports in Europe. As your sat-nav destination enter Zum Hafenplatz 1, 23570 Lübeck-Travemünde, or the keyword "Skandinavienkai" also works. By car you reach it via the A1 to Lübeck and then the A226 direct to the quay; from Hamburg you're at the terminal in a good hour.
There's a pay long-stay car park right at the port: a camera records your number plate on entry and exit, and you pay at the machine in the harbour building, via the EasyPark app, or online - there's no paper ticket. If you're arriving as a foot passenger without a car, take bus line 50 from Lübeck Hauptbahnhof to the Roter Hahn stop and change there to line 36 to the Skandinavienkai.
Check-in and departure
Check-in with a vehicle runs via the self-service check-in machines at the Skandinavienkai: scan the barcode on your booking confirmation to get your boarding pass and cabin key. TT-Line check-in usually closes two hours before departure and opens around four hours before; on this long Baltic Sea route you should allow plenty of lead time. Online check-in is more convenient, and TT-Line emails you the link in advance.
Carry a valid ID document, a national ID card or passport is enough. Germany and Lithuania are both in the Schengen area, so there are no fixed border checks on this journey within the EU.
On board
Fleet ships such as Nils Dacke, Robin Hood or Akka sail on this route. Because the crossing runs overnight, it makes sense to book a cabin; TT-Line offers inside and outside cabins in several categories. On board you'll also find a restaurant with hot and cold food, a bar and an onboard shop.
Payment on board is cashless with the usual cards such as Visa, Mastercard and Maestro; TT-Line only accepts cash at the port offices. You pay in euros both in Germany and in Lithuania, so you don't need any foreign currency for the crossing.
Vehicle, bike and pets
Cars, motorcycles, motorhomes and caravans are all carried; the longer your vehicle, the higher the fare, so enter the dimensions correctly when booking. Pets are welcome on TT-Line ferries and must be declared when booking. There are dedicated pet cabins in limited numbers, so it's worth booking early. The car deck stays closed during the crossing, so your pet doesn't travel in the vehicle.
Arrival in Klaipėda and onward travel
In Klaipėda the ferry docks at the central TT-Line terminal, Minijos g. 180, 93269 Klaipėda; some sailings are handled at the neighbouring DFDS terminal instead, so check the details in your booking. Klaipėda is Lithuania's only seaport and sits directly opposite the Curonian Spit, which you reach via a short harbour ferry to Smiltynė.
By car it's an easy onward journey into the country: around 215 kilometres to Kaunas, a good 300 kilometres to the capital Vilnius, and the seaside resort of Palanga just a few kilometres to the north. That makes Klaipėda a handy starting point for your Baltic road trip.
Tickets and fares
