Ferries to Lithuania
From Germany to Lithuania
The route from Kiel to Klaipėda is the best-known direct ferry connection from Germany to Lithuania. It is operated by the Danish ferry company DFDS with 6 departures a week, so almost daily. The ferries depart Kiel's Ostuferhafen in the evening and reach the port of Klaipėda the next day after around 21 hours at sea.
DFDS deploys large RoPax ferries on this route such as the Victoria Seaways and the Regina Seaways; the exact ship assigned rotates within the Baltic fleet. On board you'll find cabins, a restaurant and a shop, and vehicles of all kinds (from cars to lorries) can be taken along.
The Rostock-Klaipėda route is operated by TT-Line both directly and with a change in Trelleborg. The direct crossing runs once a week and takes around 24 hours. The crossing with a change in Trelleborg runs several times a week, with a journey time of around 31 hours.
Since 2024, TT-Line has also offered a direct connection from Travemünde to Klaipeda once a week. As with the Rostock - Klaipeda route, connections with a change in Trelleborg are also offered several times a week. The journey time is between 24 and 31 hours.
From Sweden to Lithuania
The shortest ferry connection to Lithuania is the one from the Swedish port of Karlshamn to Klaipeda, operated almost daily by the two ferry companies TT-Line and DFDS. The crossing time here is only 13 hours 30 minutes. Both companies run overnight sailings: the ferries depart Karlshamn in the evening and arrive in Klaipeda the next morning (sometimes not until midday).
TT-Line sails from Trelleborg to Klaipeda twice a week, with a journey time of around 22 hours. As mentioned above, TT-Line times these departures so that they connect with the ferries from Rostock and Travemünde to Trelleborg.

Which ferries run to Lithuania?+
The only direct ferry to Lithuania runs from Kiel to Klaipėda: DFDS operates it six times a week, so almost daily. TT-Line connects Klaipėda directly with Travemünde and Rostock. On top of that there are the shorter crossings from Karlshamn and Trelleborg in Sweden, which can be combined with the TT-Line ferries from Germany into one through ticket.
How long does the crossing to Lithuania take?+
It depends on the route. The direct Kiel - Klaipėda ferry with DFDS is an overnight crossing of around 21 hours. The direct TT-Line connection from Travemünde takes about 25 hours overnight, and from Rostock it's similar. The crossings from Karlshamn and Trelleborg in Sweden are shorter at sea, but you need to add the journey through Denmark and Sweden. The exact times for your date are shown in the timetable.
Can I take my car or motorhome?+
Yes. All ferries to Lithuania carry vehicles, from cars to motorhomes to a car with caravan. The vehicle price depends on length and height, so you enter the dimensions when booking. Can my dog come on board?+
Yes, dogs and other pets can travel with you. DFDS offers dedicated pet cabins on the Kiel - Klaipėda route, and TT-Line also offers pet cabins depending on the ship, plus designated areas on the outer decks.
